WEB SITE HOME

This is the home page of Western Gate's web site.  Western Gate is the western most Chapter of the Florida Trail Association, and is devoted to building, maintaining and hiking the Florida National Scenic Trail (FNST), which stretches more that 1300 miles from Fort Pickens in Escambia County to the Big Cyprus Nature Preserve in south Florida.  Our Chapter is responsible for that portion of the FNST in Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties and a portion of the trail Okaloosa County.  In total there are approximately 100 miles of trail in the three county area, much of it continuous, which makes multi-day backpacking trips feasible.  Trails are connected on the east to those of the Choctawhatchee Chapter of the Florida Trail Association, and on the north to the trails of the Alabama Hiking Trail Society through the Conecuh National Forest.
The Chapter regularly leads hikes, campouts, backpacks, canoe trips and bike excursions.  Hikes are tailored to the capability of a variety of individuals, from a one hour walk around town with dinner to follow to a twenty mile cross country event.  Meetings are held monthly,
